RMFA presents ‘Vivid and Vulnerable Vessels’ by Laura Harper Lake
The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to exhibit a selection of works by Laura Harper Lake, in the Mayor Harvey E. Bernier Room, in Suite 135 of the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center. The exhibition will be on view from January 9, 2023, to March 3, 2023. A reception will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2023 from 1pm-4pm. The public is encouraged to attend.
Laura Harper Lake is an interdisciplinary artist and designer who works under the moniker Artful Harper Studios at the Exeter Stations Studios in Exeter, New Hampshire. She has been creatively driven her whole life and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from Chester College of New England in 2007.
Laura has exhibited her work in various galleries throughout New England and in virtual publications. In addition to making art, Laura co-hosts a weekly podcast Creative Guts, which is also a nonprofit, that interviews creatives from all disciplines and explores the heart of creativity in New Hampshire and beyond. Harper Lake resides in Epping, NH with her husband.
According to Lake, “It began as an exercise to merge abstract and representational forms on my canvas, without the constraints of striving for perfection. That's something I've struggled with for a long time, especially in the advent of posting work to social media. I wanted to relax my grip on the brush and to allow mistakes to live through the work historically. Little did I know it would grow into a deeper practice of allowing my own self to be accepting of who I am, and to let go of the physical paragon our culture deems worthy.”
The RMFA is located within the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center at 150 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH, behind Spaulding High School. Suite 135 is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. Visit www.rochestermfa.org to learn more.
The museum is sponsored by the City of Rochester, Rochester Main Street, Waterstone Properties Group, Bernier Insurance, Meredeth Village Savings Bank, and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.
